Minutes - Sycamore Knolls Neighborhood Association - Annual General Meeting
Tuesday, 23rd October 2012

Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 7:05pm in the Art Room of Childs School.  There were 10 adult neighbors present at the meeting, including the officers (and 3 children).

Welcome
Robert Terrill, president, welcomed everyone to the meeting, introduced the officers, and invited the neighbors present to introduce themselves.

Annual Treasurer’s Report
Gary Wiggins presented the Treasurer’s Report.  While the expenses for the annual Easter Egg Hunt and Garage Sale were higher this year than last, SKNA still brought in more money than it spent.  This year 95 households paid SKNA dues, up from 83 households in 2011, 90 in 2010, and 77 in 2009.  As of 09/24/2012 there was a credit balance of $2,350.21.

Recognition of Outgoing Officers
Shirley Davies is resigning after having served for many years as SKNA secretary; Gary Wiggins is resigning after having served for 5 years as SKNA treasurer; Robert Terrill is resigning after having served for 5 years as SKNA president.  All were thanked for their service to the neighborhood.

President’s Report
Robert Terrill outlined 4 issues to which SKNA should attend in the future:

1. Renwick.  The portion of Renwick that lies along Moores Pike just to the southwest of the roundabout has not been developed, but someday will be.  It seems likely that the parcel will not contain single-family homes as originally planned.  We should watch for signs that it may be developed, and be sure that we have a voice in those plans.
2. Trail.  The Jackson Creek Trail Master Plan shows the trail continuing from the “goat farm” up the east side of High Street and following the north side of Arden Drive to Southeast Park.  The city currently is investing its trail-building money in the B-Line trail, so development of the Jackson Creek Trail is dormant.  But if the plans for development of the trail through the neighborhood should again become active, SKNA should be in a position to influence its design and/or route.
3. Identity.  It would benefit the neighborhood to be marked by signs.  One attractive possibility may be “sign toppers” such as those that the City has installed in the Prospect Hill neighborhood.  Grants are available from the City to defray the cost of purchase and installation.
4. Social Events.  For some years, the neighborhood has been in need of a social events chairperson or committee.  The wonderful Easter Egg Hunt this past year was an example of the sort of events that such a committee could organize.

New Business
Teela James noted the need for a sidewalk along the east side of Montclair.  She believes that there is support among the neighbors who would most directly be affected, and she will work with her neighbors and with our representative on the City Council, Dave Rollo, to follow up on this project.

The following officers were elected unanimously by the neighbors present at the meeting:

Treasurer:  Bill Lonnberg
Secretary:  Teela James

Fourth of July in Sycamore Knolls

It hadn't cooled off much by 7:00pm, but still we all gathered at the foot of Montclair for a spirited "march" up the hill to the park.

There were some old-timers (including some who had grown up in Sycamore Knolls) and some newbies (including some who had lived in the neighborhood for less than a week!), and we gathered under the shelter at Southeast Park for some refreshments and a chance to get to know one another.

A splendid time was had by all!

Blooming Neighborhoods

The Sycamore Knolls Neighborhood Association continued its long-standing participation in the annual "Blooming Neighborhoods" event during the Farmers' Market this past Saturday.

Neighborhood associations from all over the city each were assigned to a table set up in a semicircle in front of City Hall.  It was a wonderful chance to meet with neighborhood leaders from all around Bloomington, and to see what sorts of projects and events are organized by our fellow Bloomingtonians.  The City also bestows awards on neighborhoods who have had notable accomplishments over the past year.

The caroling (and the gathering that followed, under the park shelter around some hot chocolate and cookies) besides being generally a good time and a good excuse to hang out with your neighbors, also was a part of a fundraising effort.
